    Buy the tanks
Renting them locks you into what ever they want to charge. Expect it to go up dramatically.
But you can only have them filled by them so you pay whatever with no opportunity to shop for less costly propane.

I almost entered a drawing at our county fair for a free propane tank refill (up to some size limit like 500lb). Then I realized that I could not collect if I won since I do not own my tank.

On the other hand, the piping service (including switching to two stage regulation when we added a propane dryer) from the LPG vendor was quick competent and well priced.

For propane tanks I'd suggest search for a large tank from a propane powered vehicle or motor home. They're mounted horizontal so less problems hauling them. mount it permanently on a small trailer and you wouldn't have to worry about loading or unloading it.

But you have to make sure you have provisions to ground it whenever it is in use.
