Hey Russ,
Maybe im too knew to this forum to understand you guys help. But my CURRENT PROJECT IS NOT A SOLAR POWERED SHAW. ITS ABOUT USING SOLAR POWER ON A SHAW. I still havent received one response regarding this. Is that not interesting enough? I'll probably get some LA BATS to power the shaws at first with the solar panels to help charge the accessories battery.

Try looking at the electric bicycle kits on sale. I dont know how much a rickshaw weighs and the amount of power required to propel them. So you decide how powerful your motor would be. Use a golfcart battery or some LiFePO4 if cost is not a problem to you. Capacity will depend on the motor ratings and the duration you would use the motor.
1. Stack all the solar panels that can fit on your rickshaw. It will extend your range a bit but dont expect
to get significant charge on your batteries. You still need to fully charge the batteries at home.
2. Leave the panels at home( you can have as many as you can afford) and charge the batteries when you
get home If the sun is still up. Otherwise park your rig for charging the next day.Or have a 2nd set of
battery pack to be charged during the day while your using the other one.
3. Buy a charger to be plugged on your walls and fill up the batteries every time your home.
4. Forget the electric motor, battery and solar panels. Hook up on your rickshaw a small gas powered
engine from a scooter, lawnmower, power saw etc. It will cost much less and provide you with more
power and range.
5. Go to the gym and make those legs more powerful so you wont need 1-4.Comment

Super Cap Energy Source
One thing to remember about super (or other) caps. The only way to get most of the
stored energy back, is to mostly discharge the cap. While you are doing that, the
available voltage drops to useless. So a cap is a terrible energy source for a load
needing a fairly stable voltage (like a battery). Could be made to work, by running
up a high voltage, then using a switcher to maintain the available voltage as the
cap source nosedives. Bruce RoeComment

Some info about super caps.. they are about the most expensive way to store power.. Many times the price of a comparable size FLA battery.
There are vids showing them used to start a car.. half the story. the car is hot starting. you can start a 6cyl as new car with a motorcycle battery. . Now try using those caps on a cold car on a cold morning.. nothing...
Also those caps were charged a few minutes before the demo. Overnight they would be dead flat.. great huh??
Super do have a great use as boost power for helping the batt in an electric car move off from start .That first 4 secs puts big load on the batt. Suoper caps can help a lot there for the first 4 secs then they depleted.
Used to pwer a motor you would get about 5 to 6 secs of power before the voltage so low to be useless. You don't go far in 5 secs.Comment

5--10 seconds would satisfy 90% of my needs.Im still a rider and prefer to ride (i like the weight training) but the gf is still at a disadvantage and she does care that her legs and ass get bigger
i know a FLA is cheaper to do but super caps are just dam cooleryou know what i mean Sunny?

well the video i saw was a two part series. his first test were with 16oz can size caps and yes it was a warm start, though his second video shows him with smaller D bat size caps and small lithium bat attached to what he claims to use for his acessories. He claims he has started his car after a week left at some seemingly cold airport. He claims that his cap booster works just as fine without the lithium but uses it just for his radio while the car is off. It seems legit but what do i know. If that were truly possible and it didnt cost "many times more" , but thats all relative i guess....hmmm, i priced his caps at around €8/each and an optional lightweigh lithium bat. If it gave me 5-10 secs boosts and less than 5minrecharges, is that possible with a 60w panel? enquiry minds want to know?

What kind of stuff do you guys smoke there in Spain - must be pretty wild as it seems to affect you very much.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

If it gave me 5-10 secs boosts and less than 5minrecharges, is that possible with a 60w panel? enquiry minds want to know? You missing something here. It would take about 24 of those small cells to give 5 secs.. Idont think you understand how far a motor powered rickshaw would go in 5 secs.. As its only going to be about a 3 hp motor.. mabe 15 ft.The use of that on a hill?
Another major problem you are going to need a dual axis solar array with about 2000 watts of panels.. / ...like I originally told you that would need 10 rickshaws in tow with all the panels on their roofs.. Now what about if you going into the sun up a hill but the sun is behind the hill.? no sun on panels=no output. Same between buildings and trees..
Its beyond hopeless.Comment

first real sunny day, tested the flex panels and they work fine . connected it to our house(rv) solar reg. New solar 10amp regs coming tomorrow to hook up seperately on the shaws. Went to the local autoparts store to check all their cool 12v ascess. they have a cool waterproof cigarette lighters that i want to get. I figure with a small 10Ah bat it will be enough to solar charge all the ascess and/or some evening lights and music.
Also, visited the local hardware storee and found some cool sliding/folding/locking brckt to mount the panels up top. So will be able to adjust up 90 degrees facing forward and laying completly flat it will have a slight rear decline of about 15 deg. so we can adjust it a little while driving and parked.
keep you posted,

After doing the first 126 adjustments on the first day. I bet you will drop that to less than 10 the next then forget it..
And between buildings and trees and sun behind the hill??? Shadows ,shadows and more shadows.Comment

Im an old drag race frame builder and i love adjustments and by the way it gives you something to do between rides. Also our route doesnt have any shadow whatsoever, unfortunatelywe are on the beach promende all day
This is going to be BADASS ! A solar panel canopy on a rickshaw that will power tablets, phones, a sound system and lights in a beautiful mediterreanean pueblo and NO not at the same time so we wont need your fleet of cargo bikes to carry all the batteries and solar panels, i feel will be a fun, cool solar project. I see there is interest in here so i will keep posting updates and maybe one day Sunny we can talk about super cap solar power booster, or whatever we going to call it when, somehow technology catches with imagination

ps... I know you just trying to wind me up cause im a newbie in THIS forum , haha... we keep you old guys entertained. Anyways cheers for your interest anyway ! SaludComment

Im not trying to wind you up as you new on here. Im just giving you facts and explaining the impractical uses of super capsComment

Though, just to get your juices going again , I should mention that i have a buddy developing a high output/low input phase motor that will use 1/10 power of current hub motor tech. Seen it in action and it works. So maybe i will only need 1-2 cargo bikes to carry all the panels and super caps
like i said , i appreeciate your interest and respect your knowledge on super caps but this is not a super cap project, its a mobile solar project .
