I think Billvon has come closest to giving you the reason for the "buzz" .. And it is the really the most likely reason.
I dont believe anything sinister is going to happen to you .Its an isolated system,and a very small one at that. I cant see any even remote possibility of a fire happening.
Your "earth" rod is really not going to help much. There is no way it can., even if you burried 50ft of copper rod in the ground . But it would provide a very good "grounding point" if lightening did strike.
Many times you will find electricians can be as dumb as bricks when it comes to batteries and inverters,as their usual experience is with grid supply.
