    mini solar panel to charge mobile phone?

    Hi All,

    I've got a small solar panel that was originally for powering a pond aerator pump. the panel is 13x8.5cm and the cable has an aux plug on the end of it. can anyone give me any advice about whether i could convert the panel some how to charge a mobile phone (android) - would it be powerful enough? also - can anyone advise me about how i could convert it, or direct me to a website with some tips?

    thanks in advance for any advise or help anyone can provide!

    2 things,

    1) what voltage / amps does your phone need for charge

    2) what voltage / amps does the panel put out (what does the label on the panel or motor say)
    Powerfab top of pole PV mount (2) | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||
    || Midnight Classic 200 | 10, Evergreen 200w in a 160VOC array ||

      Thanks for responding Mike,

      it seems i have two problems then, i can't answer either of those questions! the solar panel nor pump have any information about the voltage, and i haven't got an answer for the phone yet either as i'm getting a new one soon so was thinking about this in advance of that...

      hmm... I'm guessing that leaves me in a pretty impossible place?

        OK, you have a charge cord for the phone right ? What does it connect to ? USB (5V ) cig lighter plug (12V) household wall wart (will have volt/amp marked on back) ?

        The panel can be measured, for volts and amps.

          I havent got the phone yet, but when I do, Ill know the voltage from the wall plug.

          as for the panel, i'm pretty sure i can track down a battery tester/measurer thing (sorry i have no technical knowledge of this stuff, but it has two wires to link to each end of a battery and measures the voltage and other things) can i use that to test the voltage from the solar panel?

          thanks

            Here is a website for various small solar panels for laptops etc. Maybe you can find your solution here.

            The panels are cheap, it is easier to buy a dedicated note book solar charger!
