Stap Down Transformer 230VAC => 110VAC in an Off Grid PV System

Hi All,

I’m working on a Off Grid system based on Outback for a client. This client wants to have an outlet of 230VAC and 110VAC as well.

Is it possible to install an step down transformer after the DC-AC inverter? Like the picture show?

If it is possible should I put some protection in between the stapdown transformer and the inverter? How? What?

My inverter has both outputs.

Yes I know some inverter brands have 2 outlets. Outback also have them, but not available for the international market. Only for North America.

You could use an autotransformer for maximum efficiency and minimum
bulk. It just a 220 VAC winding with a center tap. There are a couple in
the 3KVA range around here. But this does not provide isolation between
the 2 systems. You would need to see if a suitable grounding point is
possible to cover both voltages. Bruce Roe

If isolated, its just a transformer. Isolation is convenient, but
for a given KVA it will need double the iron and copper, cost
more, and have higher losses. These can be pretty substantial
if exceeding a couple KVA. Bruce Roe
