Two of my neighbors use wind mills for power.
One guy has a couple small 400-watt windmills, and he hates them. But I have observed that his are not anywhere near high enough to get a good bite of the wind.
The other guy has a 2k watt unit up much higher. Our township is all dense forest. A windmill needs to be at least 40-foot above the tree tops before it is going to get much wind. He loves his windmill.

From what I have heard a wind turbine needs to be high like organic farmer posted or have at least 200 ft clearance all around it and wind speeds at least 20mph. Living in the Midwest or on a lake gets you that kind of clearance and wind speeds but I am guessing that in a valley would be hard to achieve anywhere close to the output spec of the turbineComment
