    Two Horse Barn Solar System

    Hello all,

    We are currently putting a two horse barn in our backyard and I was wondering if someone could suggest a appropriate system for my needs. Maybe even an off-grid solar all in one kit. The barn is approximately 250 yards from my house so I figured it would be cheaper to go with an off-grid solar system instead of running conduit the whole way into the back yard.

    Load:
    6-8 60W Lights (although I plan on going with LED's) @4-6hrs a day
    x2 100W standard box fans @24hrs a day potentially
    Location:
    Central PA

    If someone could offer some assistance that would be great.
    Thanks!

    Howdy Bernick and welcome to the solar forum with the mostest

    I think you should get a price to run the grid to your barn as for the loads you are describing you are going to need to spend many thousands of dollars on a solar off-grid system (panels, inverter, cc, batteries, racking, labour etc)

    So if its going to cost say (just guessing now) $2000 to get power run to your barn I think you will be way better of doing that. There are others around the place who know a lot more than me and might chime in to help you out but I think getting a price to run the grid to the barn is a no brainer, cheers.

      if it costs $5,000 to run power to the barn, you will still be ahead of what solar would cost you.

      You can install a bare bones system with a
      $250 250-300W panel
      $150 1 rack to hold it
      $200 Charge controller: Morningstar SunSaver 15 Amp MPPT Solar Charge Controller (converts the 70V PV to 12V for battery)
      $220 Golf cart 6V batteries (2 each)
      $100 Fuses, battery box, misc wires

      This simple 12V system would run a couple 12V LED lights and a small 12V computer fan, and maybe a car radio. But not the loads you initially listed
      Powerfab top of pole PV mount (2) | Listeroid 6/1 w/st5 gen head | XW6048 inverter/chgr | Iota 48V/15A charger | Morningstar 60A MPPT | 48V, 800A NiFe Battery (in series)| 15, Evergreen 205w "12V" PV array on pole | Midnight ePanel | Grundfos 10 SO5-9 with 3 wire Franklin Electric motor (1/2hp 240V 1ph ) on a timer for 3 hr noontime run - Runs off PV ||
      || Midnight Classic 200 | 10, Evergreen 200w in a 160VOC array ||
      || VEC1093 12V Charger | Maha C401 aa/aaa Charger | SureSine | Sunsaver MPPT 15A

        Hello! I will get the run priced out and then update this post.
        Thanks!
