Earthing a DC to AC inverter in a campervan

    Hello folks.
I've just got an inverter to attach to my battery so I can run main electric off my solar panels in my van. Setting this up is simple, except that it recoomends earthing the circuit. There is a loose earth wire in the kit but i'm wondering where it connects to and from. The instruction manual says "For vehicles, boats, or other systems with negative common ground use the earth cable to connect the inverter case and the negative common ground of your system.

There is a little screw attached to the inverter case, but i'm wondering what negative common ground would be, to attach it to?

Any pointers would be much appreciated!

You need a good education. EARTH DOES NOTHING in a mobile system. Earthing a system is for buildings, not vehicles.

Definition of Earth or Ground: A reference to to Earth or a body in place of earth like the chassis of a car. In a vehicle it is not needed. In a house it is needed to provide a path for high voltage fault from the utility or lightning strikes. Otherwise Earth serves no purpose.

    negative common ground
You need two connections. One to the battery positive post, and another to the battery negative post. Nothing else is required.

Your vehicle battery cable is connected to the metal chassis. If you add another battery, if the inverter wants it connected to common, then that would be the chassis. (Note, with Mod Sine waveform inverters, this will generally make things go BANG)
