    charge controller

    Hi,

    I am in the process of building a RE system and the only problem that I have left is the charge converter. I need a charge converter than can handle 30-40A but I don't really feel like spending the 150-300 for a commercial one that has all the bells and whistles on it. I just want something simple, could anyone point me in the direction of one thats either much cheaper on the market or something I could possibly build myself?

      You connect you panels to the battery, and measure the voltage with a meter. Disconnect the panels when the battery is charged. That's the cheapest.

      If your panels are closely matched to your battery voltege, the TRACE/XANTREX C-60 is a well proven controller.

          I feel that there is some problem with charge converter. Try any other charge converter then look the difference between voltage between them.

                  The C-60 I mentioned earlier, is a solid product. Even a used, working one from ebay shoud be acceptable, insist on a photo of the innards to insure it's not been BBQ'd

                  How much will it cost to replace a destroyed battery bank, and the structure that houses it, if a cheap or non-skillfuly made controller fails? The likelyhood of a C-60 failing is very low.
