Take a picture of your sun power inverter and get Amy serial
Numbers from it. It is most likely anSMA inverter. You can add a sunny island and batteries to create a 120V back up System. If you need 240v it will require 2 sunny islands. Your 12v inverter will not work with a 48v battery bank

Using the Volt as a power source from what I can see would be a very small 12V load. There is no inverter built into the car and you would be using the accessory battery only from what I can see.
Try contacting the contractor that put the system in for you and tell them what you want to do. You are probably still under warranty and any diy modifications would most likely void your Sunpower and installer warrranties.NABCEP certified Technical Sales Professional
