12V Deka Gel 8G24 Batteries

Hello again, I'm sure glad I found this forum. You guys have been a great help!
My next question is:
Can 12V Gel batteries be wired in series to make 24V? The reason I ask is, I remember the gel batteries should not be charged at a higher than 14.1V.

No problem. That 14.1 would be for a 12 volt battery, 24 volt configuration , just double the numbers given for bulk, absorb and float.

You say you remember 14.1. All batteries are slightly, to vastly, different than others. Follow the mfg. specs for charging. If float and cyclic values are given then program for whatever is appropriate for your usage.

Well I just completed the job. Everything seems to be working fine.
I have a digital display on my Xantrex C40. I Put the jumper pin on 24v. But I noticed the digital display is reading 4 amps and 12.8v and my voltmeter reads 25v.

The meter has jumpers as well as the controller body they both need to be set to 24 volts.

Careful - 14.1v for GEL, despite what any manufacturer says otherwise.

In an attempt to make consumers think that gel and agm are plug-n-play compatible with each other, many choose to offer the agm specifications for gel's.

Part of the problem is that manufacturers of gels know that consumers won't choose the proper charger, or use the options properly to set the voltage, so they gave up and just said that gel = agm. Not true, but it sells more batteries when gels are overcharged and the consumer has no idea.

What makes it even harder is that charger manufacturers try to make them one-size-fits-all, or knowingly throw their hands in the air about it.

Dekka gets the specs right, but then the consumer puts it on a really dumb, but supposedly smart agm charger - and bluuurp. Voids in the gel. Or the automotive charging system is 14.4v absorb.

It's been a travesty for decades now. 14.1v max for gel....

Any battery type can be wired in series. So yes wiring two identical 12 volt gel batteries in series gives you 24 volts. Just one catch, Gels should not be used on solar.

Gel batteries has a very narrow niche market and that as Emergency Egress Lighting or Fire Alarm Panels charged on a slow C/20 Float Charger.
