Well the good folks at Trojan Marketing dept are giving in to Political Correctness and preying on Millennials. Pretty easy to do. No longer will you find T-105, T-105RE, LR16 or any other familiar model numbers. All gone over night. Not to worry, nothing has really changed Millennials, they just changed the sticker and raised prices. They just want you to believe they have your interest at heart and care about the environment. Nothing could be further than the truth. They know like most pros off-grid is anything but good for anyone or the environment. Opps I am sorry millennials you have been lied to. In school they told you solar energy was clean. They lied. Anything you take off grid is going to cost you some 5 times more than that mean ole greedy power company for the rest of your life, and makes you a very heavy polluter, some 2 to 4 times more than that dirty filthy power company.
So what is the change. Labels. Example instead of a T-105RE is now called SSIG 06 235. Basically lipstick on a pig, its still a pig. Trojan use to call their lines
Signature Line which were your basic batteries like the T-105. Those are now called SSIG (Solar Signature) followed by 2 numbers of XX and YYY XX = Voltage and YYY = Amp Hours @ 20 hour rate.
Premium Line which is where RE aka Renewable Energy is now called SPRE (Solar Premium Renewable Energy) Again with XX YYY model number indicating voltage and capacity
Industrial Line is now Solar Industrial Line SIND XX YYY Trojans top end battery.
4 things have changed, 2 good, 1 bad, and 1 is just confusion to make you think it is improved.
1. Start with the bad. Higher prices.
2. On the good side, the batteries have not changed one little bit. Just the paper sticker and model number has changed, not the product. What i do like is the second change with a little more honesty with respect to cycle life every battery manufacture lies about. Now Trojan does not tell quite as big of a lie.Example the T-105 claims 3000 cycle is now down to 500 cycles which is close to real. Its a 2 year battery. Why did the get real. Because of all the warranty claims.
3. If you have not guessed what is meaningless by now, it is a label and marketing tactic. I am OK with it as now you can tell exactly what voltage and AH capacity the batteries are. As already explained the model number format is XX YYY where XX = Battery Voltage and YYY = Amp Hour capacity at the 20 hour rate.
Lastly what I can say is I do like Trojan Battery. They make quality batteries in three price lines. The Signature Series now called SSIG is a good 2 year battery like a T-105 that is so popular. Premium Series was the RE line now called SPRE is a solid 3 to 5 year battery like a T-105RE. The Industrial Line now called SIND is their top tier line and quite possible the best lead acid battery money can buy and a solid 7 to 10 year battery.
Lastly do not forget you get what you pay for. Trojans Industrial line now called SIND is the best value and lowest long term price. Yep they cost twice as much as the old RE line now called SPRE, but they last 2 to 3 times longer. In addition they can be hit with C/3 charge and discharge current which can save you some big bucks if you have large loads or high charge current requirement because you live in poor location like Seattle.
Product Line.
