I built my solar suitcase and it works great. I did end up getting an MPPT controller as I really wanted a Bluetooth interface and those were few and far between. I first purchased a smartsolar 75/15 to hook up my two 100w panels to see if it worked, then after proving the experiment worked just fine I returned it for a smartsolar 100/50 controller. I've got a few questions that are not addressed in their skimpy manual.
If my panels ever produced 101 volts, does it fry the controller or shut it down or? I understand that if it produces more than 50 amps, It only allows 50 amps thru to the batteries.
I just read Sunking's entry about only going up to 600 watts on a 12 volt system. I have 520 Ah of LA batteries.
I am mounting them on an RV roof, meaning they will probably never produce near their rating. Is 700 watts ( 2 x 350 watt) an issue if they are only flat mounted? -Bill
