What do you lay your solar cells on when Soldering?

I have been running into problems not sure if its becuase my heat is to high.

Im using Weller wes51

And When I solder the front side of cell at temp setting at 750 Degrees Fahrenheit
And then when I solder the back side at that heat. It then melts the other side of cell and makes my work look like cr@p. The front side melts when I do back side.

Im using just a thin piece of glass.

What do you use to solder on? Do I need a metal plate perhaps to keep cell cool when Soldering.

Any suggestions would help

Also the cells im soldering is Mono

I was soldering my other cells which are mono but they only produce 2.8w, they solder fine But I tried today to solder the higher wattage cells I have and its just melting the other side :\

That didnt help. And Im also using Kester SN63PB37

The problem is when I solder the front side. And get it all looking Nice.
I do the backside which totally destroys my solder work in the front of cell

Lucky for you I can take pictures.

It was nice the front side after I was done. I was all happy how nice it came. But soon as I did the back.
The front looks horrible now haha..

This is frustrating. Im almost having doubts about my soldering..

I do believe I solder pretty fast but perhaps not fast enough.

You will notice alot of it has melted onto the solar cell itself. and bunch of blotchy on my tab which was pretty much perfect before soldering the back

I also tried turning my solder down to 60. It wouldnt give me any control to solder with couldnt move a puddle or nothing

That almost looks like flux, could that be what it is? BTW I deleted my other post since I misunderstood what you were soldering..

Well Ya I use a Flux pen first and then solder my tabbing.

Its just too hot and its doing damage to the other side of cell.
These busbars tabbing were perfectly done almost and then now its blotchy marks. etc

Not really new to solar, I am new to this forum, I have been designing, installing and repairing systems and utility grade inverters since 2001. I have never tried to make a module though. So this is interesting as I have been thinking about experimenting with actually making one from the cell assembly on up.

If the side opposite of what you are soldering, is melting, it's getting too hot. Either lower the iron temperature, or move the iron faster.

I went fast and it helped alot but im still getting melting on the front. Do you see some melting in front of your cells?
