Your idea has some merit as long as you have a lot of roof space or only one row of panels.
A big potential problem is that your large "carport" over your panels would completely shade any panels behind it.
Some people with a lot of snow and high latitude also tilt their panels completely vertical for the winter. No need for a roof over them then.SunnyBoy 3000 US, 18 BP Solar 175B panels. -

On open letter to GoldCobra rather than a reply, since I certainly do not want to piss him or her off.
I have been trying to make constructive comments and offer known alternatives, as well as relate your concerns to the experiences of others.
Without ruling out the possibility of new and exciting ideas it is also usually helpful to respect the wisdom of past experience.
I will not try to help you any further and I will leave the whole question of banning to other Moderators, since I am too closely involved.SunnyBoy 3000 US, 18 BP Solar 175B panels.Comment

Ive done this and tested this with my tiny model. AND have also done this to my bird feeder. Which, no snow has come onto my seeds all winter. for my little fellas to gobble and eat seeds without no snow ever on them. except only on the roof does the snow come on, And it has even also rained. and no rain has made my seeds wet.Comment

Tilting them completely vertical is not very good. you will not be producing as much power. Having them vertically tilted would produce 40+Percent less power.
Yes there is a need to have a roof over them.
Im sorry but you are wrong.
It is essential in our northern area and climate.
Also. Whats stopping you to develop a vertical solar array. rather than completely horizontal.
My concepts are new and inferior.
your logic is completely cold hearted.
please no more replies you pissin me off.

Some one is pissed and spending a lot of his time deleting all his old posts. Too bad. I believe he enjoyed experimenting with solar cells and would have been interesting to read about what he found.Comment

[QUOTE=inetdog;n302544]And while it is actually raining the panels are not producing usable power anyway!QUOTE]
I think you might have got your tit in the ringer a little bit on that one.Comment
