    Wanting To Start Going Solar

    Hi Everyone!

    I have been flirting with the idea of slowly converting my house over to solar. I just purchased a new For Fusion Energi and would love to try and offset the cost of charging its 7.6 kWh battery via solar. Just wondering if anyone has done this or if anyone has advice on what I should be looking into. Right now offsetting the cost of the car is my main goal, roughly $30 a month in power. Does anyone know what size of a system I would need to do this? And are their systems that allow you to add more panels over time? I live in Boise, ID so we get plenty of sun. Figure I should at least look into taking advantage of it if I can.

      Mike you do understand anything you take off the grid to a stand alone system is going to cost you roughly 5 to 10 times more than buying it from the POCO for the rest of your life right? Is that what you want is to pay up to 10 times more for electricity? That is exactly what you are asking for and we would love to put some of that money in our pockets since you do not need it.

          What you wish to do could be done with a grid tie system sized to offset the car's chargng.
          As Sunking said taking it off grid would be a very expensive and labor intensive project that will never end in terms of work and money.

              That is really what I am looking at doing. I'm not intending to live off the grid by any means. I guess my original post could have been phrased a little better. I am looking for advise on how to properly size a grid tie system and if its really worth it in the end. I don't know very much about these types of systems so any advice would be great. Any information on brands and what all i would need would be very helpful too.

                  Grid Tie is your best option maybe. Depends on where you live and how much your neighbors are forced to pay your system. If you are in CA, you are good to go as your neighbors will pick up most of the cost. .
