Enphase micro inverters need Envoy module to operate?

I am about to install my solar system and I had a question about the Enphase micro inverters. I am using IQ-6 inverters, do they need to be connected to the "Enphase IQ Envoy ENV-IQ-AM1-240" to operate correctly, or can i just tie them directly to my sub panel breaker? Second, is there a cheaper alternative to monitor my solar output? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Envoy not required to work.

This basic AC Watt Meter will work fine for your use.

Envoy isn't required, but is helpful to monitor the status of individual micros. May be challenging to find a failed micro without it.
