I've just ordered a frame, which I just got that for reference when I go to make my next panel. And I've just purchased 120 cells which 80 of them are A grade now I have to buy the glass, soldering iron, tabbing wire, etc. is it cheaper to build your own or just buy a system that you can install yourself.
Is it cheaper to DIY or buy

Some locality may not give out permit if your DIY panels, either.
If you want DIY, buy everything don't build, then install the system yourself.Comment

DIY installation is a possibility for someone with good handyman skills and knowledge. Remember:
1) Your area/utility may or may not accept DIY
2) Homeowners insurance is generally not DIY (as in build your own panels type) friendly. If an item is not UL (or similar) listed your insurance may be void
3) You are working with a system that can cause your house to burn - electricity so be sure you know what you are doing there
4) You will be making holes in your roof
5) You will be packing items onto your roof that are not easy to handle[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]Comment

Another item to consider is that those cells may not really be A Grade. Most individual cells are really rejects from the manufacturers that have failed or did not meet specifications during a factory test.
After all of your hard work to wire them together and then seal the panel against moisture you still may end up with a problem due to just one or more of those cells being bad. All that work and you end up with a panel that doesn't produce.
I'm am all for DIY in many areas but when it comes down to solar panels there are too many ways for a DIY to fail and the estimated cost savings may end up being a lot less then purchasing a quality manufactured panel.Comment

DIY panels are great for small projects like running small fans and pumps or charging small batteries, but not for large systems, trust me. There are to many points of failure. And then there is the fact that you can't use them for your house because of insurance and codes. Far better to go with factory built UL listed panels for anything serious. Much cheaper in the long run.Comment

Look at our sponsor - Solar Town http://www.solartown.com/store/catalog/solar-panels/
This has to be one of the most frustrating sites I have been to.
I think it's honestly easier to find a Japaneses wife than a solar panel on here.
Outdated and over priced a Google search will yield you with much better results.
I wonder what they would be like to talk to on the phone, what kinda support do they have?
I personally like the 97W kit at over a buck a wattComment
