I plan to install solar panels on my roof and was wondering if i need a special permit or license to go about doing so?

Depending on the area you live in, you may need to have a building permit to install the solar panels. If you are living in a planned development neighborhood, the Homeowners Association may have additional requirements for the solar panels.
Another thing you may want to do is contact your electricity company because they may have requirements like having a technician come to your place before installing solar panels as well. I ended up calling the HOA yesterday and the company I'm having install my solar panels is taking care of all the other permits, so thats one less thing I have to worry about!Comment
