    Difference between cell sizes

I'm designing my own panels and wanted to know why cells come in different dimensions even though most are rated with similar volts and amps values. Most I've seen for sale, are 3" x 6". My BP380j panels have about 6" x 6" cells.

Shapes seem to be a compromise between getting the most out of silicon ingot, the invisible frontside conductive layer that blocks some light, and the conductive traces that absolutely block light.
